Prime Insights: Brief us on the inception story of Prime Intercorp, Mr. Kabra.

Mohit Kabra: I started Prime Intercorp, our export-import company, in May 2019 after spending over six years in a job. It was a significant leap of faith, and we officially received registration from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (India) on June 12th, 2019. As a first-generation entrepreneur in my family, it wasn’t an easy decision, especially considering the initial apprehension from my family members who hadn’t entertained the idea before. Despite consistently expressing my desire to start my own business, our middle-class background with limited savings made it feel like a daunting task. But with determination and perseverance, we embarked on this journey, determined to overcome the challenges and make our mark in the business world.

Prime Insights: How do you ensure a balance between your personal and professional lives?

Mohit Kabra: My family plays a vital role in supporting me in finding a balance between my personal and professional lives. When a person starts a journey of entrepreneurship, it’s not only him or her who is doing it individually, but also his or her family, who is supporting in some or other ways to keep the momentum going. In my journey, their backing has been invaluable, offering encouragement and stability as I navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship.

Prime Insights: As an entrepreneur, how does your journey of overcoming challenges and obstacles compare to that of others?

Mohit Kabra: I would say that every entrepreneur or business owner starts the journey because of some reason(s) that strikes them to start on their own. These reasons can be different, just like the struggles during the journey. And, when a middle- to small-class person thinks to start this entrepreneurial journey, the failures and struggles are parallel to it.

Without struggle, there is no success, and even success doesn’t taste as sweet as it should be until and unless failures and struggles are part of it.

The initial days were particularly tough, especially considering the lack of prior business experience within my immediate circle. However, I embraced the learning curve wholeheartedly, making swift decisions and navigating through uncertainties with enthusiasm.

Even after my post-graduation in international business from State University, I opted for a 1-year general management program for executives from IIM-Indore, which added ingredients to my confidence and gave me the idea to start my entrepreneurial journey.

But I believe a true entrepreneur never stops learning. That’s why I actively seek out opportunities to expand my knowledge base through short-term executive programs at ISB, IIMs, and even Ivy League universities in the future. These programs have been invaluable in shaping my approach to leadership and business strategy.

Prime Insights: Can you provide insight into the client base your company serves, including any notable mentions?

Mohit Kabra: In our Global Trading division, we cater to a diverse clientele spanning across various regions, including the USA, UK, Europe, Middle East, and Southeast Asia. As a 100% export-oriented company, we take pride in exporting our products and services to these international markets, ensuring quality and reliability every step of the way.

Moreover, through our Global Logistics Solutions wing, we offer comprehensive freight forwarding services, which encompass cross-trade facilities as well.

Prime Insights: How do you adapt to the ever-changing landscape of market trends and innovations?

Mohit Kabra: As an IIM and ISB alumnus, I am deeply committed to continuous learning and staying informed about industry trends. I make it a priority to attend relevant exhibitions and engage with industry professionals to understand emerging technologies impacting our products and services. For me, stagnation is not an option; adaptation is essential to the survival and growth of any organization.

Prime Insights: Do you consider research and development to be a vital factor in driving the company forward?

Mohit Kabra: Of course! Definitely. If we don’t do R&D in our work, we will be outdated in the league. Research and development (R&D) is absolutely crucial for propelling our company forward. There were many companies that were the global leaders in their field but didn’t invest more in R&D and didn’t change themselves with the changing trends, which are nowhere in today’s cutthroat competitive world.

Prime Insights: How important is employee satisfaction to you, and how do you maintain it?

Mohit Kabra: I always believe that my team members are my asset and my first customer. If they are happy with the working culture, they will give their 100% to the growth of the company. They are the heart and soul of our company, and their happiness and well-being are paramount to our success.
We prioritize continuous learning, and one way we can achieve this is through our strong partnerships with leading national management associations like AIMA, CII, and ASSOCHAM. These opportunities allow our team members to learn from industry experts, network with colleagues, and stay abreast of the latest trends.

Prime Insights: As the founder and CEO of your company, how do you envision the future growth and development of your team and organization?

Mohit Kabra: Being the founder and CEO of the company, it’s my duty to have a strategic and futuristic vision for the growth of my team and the company. The company is poised to undertake several transformative initiatives wherever and whenever required. These encompass establishing strategic alliances with prestigious worldwide users of our products and services, enhancing both its reach and credibility on a global scale.

Prime Insights: What are your thoughts on entrepreneurial participation in the entrepreneurial world?

Mohit Kabra: Each one of us is special with some of our strengths, and I must say that we have to write our strengths on paper and then brainstorm on how to use these strengths in this entrepreneurial world. We have to take a calculative risk and move on.

Prime Insights: What message would you like to convey to aspiring entrepreneurs who abandon their dreams due to societal stereotypes?

Mohit Kabra: I would say that all of us are working on achieving someone’s dream; if it’s not yours, it must be someone else’s. Believe in yourself and give it a try with the no-second option available to you.

Prime Insights: What does the company hold for it in the future (plans)?

Mohit Kabra: We have to expand our export business in the USA, UK, Europe, Middle East, and Southeast Asia, so we are under many discussions to make a fruitful decision for the benefit of our organization’s and its employees’ growth.

Prime Insights: What milestones and achievements do the company boast of?

Mohit Kabra: We’re approaching our 5th anniversary this year in June 2024, and we’re immensely proud of the journey so far. From securing our very first order to reaching significant milestones like our 100th order and our first million-dollar transaction breakthrough, each step forward fuels our determination to achieve even more.

Moreover, we’ve been honoured with several prestigious awards, including the Emerging Company Award in 2020–21, the Top 500 Startup Awards in 2020, the Rising Star of the Year Award in 2023–24, the Global Achievers’ Award in 2023–24, and the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year—Global ICON Award in 2024, among others. These accolades serve as motivating reminders of our progress and inspire us to reach new heights in our journey ahead.

Prime Insights: How are you contributing to society through corporate social responsibility (CSR)?

Mohit Kabra: Giving back to society is a personal commitment, and I have found my own ways to contribute. One of the ways I do this is by assisting physically challenged students as a scribe during their exams. It’s a small gesture, but it makes a difference in their lives.

Additionally, I am actively involved with my alma maters, where I engage with young and dynamic students. I share insights into the corporate world, discussing the challenges and opportunities I’ve encountered during my entrepreneurship journey. It’s my way of giving back and inspiring the next generation of leaders.
